Learn Whole Songs with CoachGuitar's Visual Step-by-Step Lessons
If you’ve got the musical itch to learn to play a few songs on guitar, there’s plenty of apps for that. One option, which is free to download, is CoachGuitar. Through a combination of video and audio playback options, CoachGuitar teaches users to play popular songs. CoachGuitar comes with full songs and riffs and offers a plethora of additional songs to buy. With CoachGuitar, the songs are broken down into intro, verse and interlude, each with separate video lessons that show finger placement and strings up close.
CoachGuitar does not teach guitar, per se – it shows, in clear and simple formats, how to play a chosen song. With playback speed control and quality video and sound, any user that has access to a guitar can probably learn to play a song. While it doesn’t teach how to read music or tablature, it does provide a means for a novice musician to teach themselves a song or two. Granted, you will have to buy everything beyond the initial 2 full songs and 2 riffs, but you’re given the chance to see how each song is demonstrated before investing anything.
It’s clear that the development of CoachGuitar goes beyond a basic internet video. The sound quality is strong and time has been invested in the development of the breakdown of video playback selections. The ability to slow down or speed up the playback is helpful to those who believe the mantra that practice doesn’t make perfect, but perfect practice does. And while it’s possible for a novice to gain a bit of knowledge, the song selections and methods aren’t necessarily ideal for those who have never even picked up a guitar. That said, users will be hard pressed to browse the library of songs available for purchase and not find a tune they’d like to learn.
CoachGuitar does a good job of providing visual aids for the purpose of learning new songs. The default songs are Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven and Green Day’s Wake Me Up When September Ends. Two additional riffs of Stand By Me and Beat It are also included. Full song lessons are comprised of dozens of separate videos while riffs are only a handful. If you want access to additional song lessons, you’ll have to shell out $4.00 a song, but at least users are given the chance to see the teaching/demonstration methods used without any initial investment. So if you’re keen on giving guitar a try, spend some time with CoachGuitar and see if its methods gel with your learning style.
